TermsofService
Last updated: February 19, 2026
Welcome to Class Compass. By accessing or using our website and services, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use Class Compass.
1. Overview
Class Compass is a personal school dashboard that integrates with Canvas LMS to provide course tracking, grade monitoring, announcements, AI-powered summarization, and other productivity features. These Terms govern your use of the Class Compass website, application, and all related services.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years of age to use Class Compass. If you are under 13, you are not permitted to use this service under any circumstances, in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
If you are between 13 and 18 years of age, you represent that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf. By allowing a minor to use Class Compass, a parent or guardian accepts these Terms and is responsible for the minor's activity on the service. Parents or guardians may request account deletion for their child at any time by contacting us.
3. Accounts
To use Class Compass, you must sign in using Google OAuth through our authentication provider. This is currently the only supported method of authentication. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your Google account and for all activity that occurs under your Class Compass account.
You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account. You may request deletion of your account at any time by contacting us.
4. Canvas LMS Integration
Class Compass allows you to connect your Canvas LMS account by providing a personal access token and your Canvas instance URL. By doing so, you authorize Class Compass to access your Canvas data — including courses, grades, assignments, announcements, and other educational data — on your behalf.
- Security: Your Canvas API token is encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM encryption and is never exposed to the client or stored in plaintext.
- On-Demand Access: Canvas data is fetched on-demand when you use the dashboard and is not permanently stored on our servers. Your educational data passes through our service but is not retained.
- Your Responsibility: You are solely responsible for any actions taken through the Canvas API using your token. You agree to comply with your educational institution's acceptable use policies regarding third-party access to your Canvas account.
- No Affiliation: Class Compass is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Instructure, Inc. (the company behind Canvas LMS) or any educational institution.
5. Subscription Plans and Payments
Class Compass offers three subscription tiers: Free, Pro ($3.99/mo or $2.99/mo ($35.88/yr)), and Lifetime ($150.00 one-time payment). All paid subscriptions are processed through Stripe.
- Auto-Renewal: By subscribing to the Pro plan, you expressly authorize us to charge your payment method automatically on a recurring basis (monthly or yearly) at the applicable rate until you cancel. Each renewal will be at the then-current price unless you are notified of a change in advance.
- Lifetime Tier: The Lifetime tier is a one-time purchase that grants access to all features for as long as Class Compass remains operational. The Lifetime tier does not involve recurring charges. If Class Compass permanently ceases operations, Lifetime purchases are non-refundable — this is a license to use the service, not a guarantee of perpetual availability.
- Plan Changes: You may upgrade or downgrade your plan at any time. Changes take effect at the start of your next billing cycle.
- Cancellation: You may cancel your subscription at any time through the Stripe billing portal accessible from your account settings. Upon cancellation, you will retain access to paid features until the end of your current billing period, after which your account will revert to the Free tier.
- Failed Payments: If a recurring payment fails and all retry attempts are exhausted, your account will be automatically downgraded to the Free tier. You may resubscribe at any time.
- Refunds: Payments are generally non-refundable. If you believe you have been charged in error, please contact us and we will review your case.
- Price Changes: We reserve the right to change subscription pricing. You will be notified of any price changes before they take effect. Continued use after a price change constitutes acceptance of the new pricing.
6. AI Features
Certain subscription tiers include access to AI-powered summarization features. When you use these features, your content (such as announcement text) is sent to OpenAI for processing.
- Third-Party Processing: AI summarization is powered by OpenAI. Your content is sent to OpenAI's API for processing. Per OpenAI's API data usage policy, data submitted through the API is not used to train their models.
- Local Caching: AI-generated summaries are cached locally in your browser for faster access. This data is stored on your device and is not sent to our servers.
- No Guarantees: AI-generated content is provided for informational and convenience purposes only. Class Compass makes no guarantees regarding the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of AI-generated summaries.
- Academic Decisions: You should never rely on AI-generated summaries for academic decisions, assignment deadlines, or grade-critical information. Always verify important information with your original course materials on Canvas.
7. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the service or its related systems.
- Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the service.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the service.
- Share your account credentials or Canvas tokens with third parties.
- Use the service to engage in academic dishonesty or violate your institution's policies.
8. Intellectual Property
All content, features, and functionality of Class Compass (including but not limited to text, graphics, logos, and software) are owned by Class Compass and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the service for personal, non-commercial educational purposes.
9. Privacy and Data
Your privacy matters. This section outlines how we collect, use, and protect your data.
Data We Collect and Store
- Account Information: Your name, email address, and profile picture from Google OAuth.
- Canvas Credentials: Your Canvas API token (encrypted with AES-256-GCM) and Canvas instance URL.
- Subscription Information: Your Stripe customer ID and current subscription tier.
Data We Do Not Store on Our Servers
- Canvas Course Data: Your courses, grades, assignments, and announcements are fetched on-demand from Canvas and pass through our service without being retained.
- Browser-Only Data: Todo lists, quick links, and AI summary caches are stored locally in your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us. If you clear your browser data or switch devices, this data will be lost.
Third-Party Services
To provide the service, your data is shared with the following third-party providers as necessary:
- Google: Authentication (name, email, profile picture).
- Canvas LMS: Your educational data is accessed using your personal API token.
- Stripe: Payment processing (email, billing information). We do not store your payment card details.
- OpenAI: Announcement text is sent for AI summarization (paid tiers only).
- YouTube: Embedded music player (paid tiers only). YouTube's own privacy policy applies.
Your Data Rights
- You can update or remove your Canvas credentials at any time through your account settings.
- You can clear browser-stored data (todos, quick links, AI cache) through your browser settings.
- You can request complete account deletion by contacting us at bp08262004@gmail.com. Upon deletion, all your data will be permanently removed from our servers within 30 days.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.
10. Disclaimer of Warranties
Class Compass is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure. We make no guarantees about the availability, accuracy, or reliability of the Canvas API or any data retrieved from Canvas. We are not responsible for errors, omissions, or inaccuracies in your educational data. Class Compass is not affiliated with or endorsed by Instructure, Inc. or any educational institution.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Class Compass and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the service. This includes, without limitation, loss of data, loss of grades or academic standing, or any damages resulting from reliance on AI-generated content.
In any case, our total aggregate liability to you for all claims arising from or related to the service shall not exceed the greater of (a) the total amount you have paid us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or (b) one hundred U.S. dollars ($100).
12. Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to Class Compass at any time, with or without cause and with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms.
You may terminate your account at any time by contacting us at bp08262004@gmail.com. Upon termination — whether initiated by you or by us — your right to use the service will immediately cease and all your data will be permanently deleted from our servers within 30 days.
If you have an active paid subscription at the time of termination, it will be cancelled. No refund will be issued for the remaining billing period unless required by applicable law.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. We will notify users of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of Class Compass after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms.
14. Third-Party Services
Class Compass relies on several third-party services to provide its functionality. These include Google (authentication), Canvas LMS (educational data), Stripe (payment processing), OpenAI (AI features), and YouTube (music streaming). Each of these services operates under its own terms of service and privacy policy.
We are not responsible for the practices, policies, or availability of any third-party service. Your use of features that depend on third-party services is subject to those services' respective terms. If a third-party service experiences downtime, changes its policies, or becomes unavailable, we are not liable for any resulting impact on your use of Class Compass.
15. Educational Data
Class Compass is a personal productivity tool. It is not a school-administered service and is not provided by, endorsed by, or affiliated with any educational institution.
You provide your Canvas credentials voluntarily and of your own accord. Your institution has not authorized or approved this connection. You are responsible for reviewing and complying with your institution's policies regarding the use of third-party tools and sharing of educational data.
Because Class Compass is a personal tool used at the individual student's discretion — not a service contracted by an educational institution — FERPA (the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) obligations that apply to schools and their official service providers do not apply to Class Compass.
16. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Georgia, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
Before pursuing any formal legal action, you agree to contact us at bp08262004@gmail.com to attempt to resolve the dispute informally. We will make a good-faith effort to resolve any issue within 30 days. If the dispute cannot be resolved informally, either party may bring an individual action in small claims court if the claim qualifies, or pursue the matter in the courts of the State of Georgia.
17. Severability and General Provisions
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unlawful, void, or unenforceable, that provision shall be enforced to the maximum extent permissible, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
These Terms, together with our privacy practices as described herein, constitute the entire agreement between you and Class Compass regarding your use of the service. No failure or delay by Class Compass in exercising any right under these Terms shall constitute a waiver of that right.
